Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
When describing May's community engagement, the better question may be, "What does she NOT do?" May has shown incredible depth and breadth in her volunteer experiences for many years. She taught Math and Reading to elementary students through Communities in School. May also provided a caring, consistent presence to a child of an incarcerated parent for the Seedling Mentor Program. May served as a Software Engineering Leadership Program Instructor and a Career Workshop Mentor for Code2College. She is also a member of the Engagement Committee at GirlStart, where she gives her valuable input to the organization's marketing and communications strategies. May is also a volunteer member of the CompTIA Certification Advisory Committee and serves as a CompTIA Subject Matter Expert for Coding Foundations Certification and Durable Skills Workshop. She recently joined the Filipino Young Professionals (FYP) Mentorship program, where she will mentor Filipino/Asian college students at the University of Texas in Austin.
May is a Senior Technical Writer at Silicon Labs, writing and editing technical content for the company's engineering community's consumption. At work, May volunteers as a Software Quality Internal Auditorto assist in the company's mock audits and relevant activities in preparation for the ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and IEC 62304 certifications. May also co-chaired one of the company's ERGs – the Women @ Silicon Labs, which aims to engage, inspire, and develop women leaders. She also co-chaired the Customer Experience Committee of the company's Annual Technical Symposium for two years, evaluating abstracts and presentations for the event. May also volunteers her time as a member of the Emergency Response Team, using her CPR certification and first aid training to assist employees in emergencies. May is always seen proudly wearing her green #siliconlabsgivesback volunteer shirt at various volunteer events throughout the year, projects she helped establish as a member of the company's Austin Philanthropy Committee.
May has been active in her church and community throughout her life, strongly focusing on disaster relief and humanitarian aid programs. Raised by a family that believes in giving back, May now models this very example for her son and other youths in the community. All of these activities are why she became a pioneering honoree for the Volunteer of the Year Award given during the 2020 Austin Chamber Generous Business Awards.
